A little secret about me......

I have a secret passion for office supplies - there I've said it, it's out in the open, and I think for the past four years it's been a little suppressed.  But not now!  Oh no, I'm like a kid in a candy store!
This little issue I have goes back a really long, long way.  When I was a little kid, and other little girls were dreaming about being princesses or playing mommy I was turning my walk-in closet into an office.  Planning my life - at college I was going to attend Boston University then head over the Harvard for my Masters.  It seemed like a normal dream for an 8 year old to me.
My room became the resting place for all my father's old phones, and computer equipment, old office folders so on and so forth.  I loved the stuff....and as I mentioned still do.  I just haven't had a reason to need any of that stuff lately - but that has changed!
We're "home schooling" for pre-K.  Not that much really needs to be done, but I want to make sure that Stephen has the basics and is ready to go for Kindergarten.  I found a website that I liked and started doing some stuff..... I realized really quickly that he had a few things to work on and so did I!  So I researched and researched and found another little pre-K curriculum that goes over his letters.

Long story short, I, in the process of doing a "little" pre-k at home was able to convince myself (and of course Alan) that we needed the following things:
1)A new printer (wait - it was so much cheaper to buy a new one then get ink cartridges for my old one!)
2)A Laminator.... I've always wanted a laminator and now I have one!  I love it, I love using it, and I feel like little 8yr old Jessica cleaning out her closet, and setting up her "office" all over again.  Except this time it will be Alan and not my mom who finds me asleep on my desk :)
3)And of course the need for file folders, binders, dry erase markers, paper ooohhh lots and lots of paper!!

I could go on and on, but lets just be honest - I have a problem with office supplies and I don't care anymore :)

Please pray

To my small following, please say a prayer for this wonderful woman and friend of mine Alaina Harris.  Yesterday, Aug. 24th while living in DC, her boss received an unreadable text message from her.  He asked a co-worker to contact her, the same gibberish text was received.  Her co-worker then called her and was able to reach her.  Alaina insured her she was fine, but that she just woke up and needed to take a sick day.
Shortly after that a woman in her apartment complex saw her walking her dog - Alaina a very fun loving Southerner usually greeted everyone with a smile and conversation.  Not yesterday - when her neighbor stopped to ask if she was ok she could tell something was wrong.  She was immediately taken to the hospital where this morning they found that she had suffered three strokes.  She is unable to speak, but can communicate through winking and there is only minor muscle damage to one side, Thank God!!  Please pray for her and her family - if you would like to know how she is doing you can follow the blog link below.  Thank you for your prayers!

A funny note to my old roommates

This past weekend I decided to take a spontaneous trip (by spontaneous I mean I planned a week in advance) to the Troy area to visit some friends that I haven't seen in almost 10 years!!!  Crazy!!  While I was there, I was joking with them that I needed to post a "dear old roommates" post - since most of these girls where either an old roommate, or next door neighbor (and in Troy that was the same thing!)
So here is an entertaining letter to all those roommate (and really anyone) weather I lived with you in college, camp, FOCUS, or well let's be honest this applies to mom and dad too!
This is for all those times that you walked into a room and found ANOTHER cup sitting out, soccer gear everywhere, or dishes in the sink - I promise I didn't do it out of malice!  I honestly just didn't realize I was messy.  For all those times you picked up after me, or folded my clothes and mumbled under your breath....."one day she'll know" Well I know!
I now, clean, wash, clean, cook (yes I cook!), fold, sweep, vacuum, mop, plus tax!  Please understand this is not a post about me complaining about cleaning, it's not.  I actually don't mind it at all.  I love all the mess (most of the time) b/c I know I am so blessed to have all these amazing soul's to clean up after......
But I do bend over, pick something up and think of all my wonderful old roommates.  I now know what it takes to keep a place looking nice, clean, sanitized......thank you for not yelling at me (or if you did we got over it).  I love you all and I hope you have enjoyed this little post inspired by your patience with me in my late teens early 20's!
